Practice the report-writing skills agencies expect

Incident information
Document when, where, and how the incident was reported.
Instructional hint: The case number uses the current year and month, the assignment sequence, and your last name. The incident date can be corrected without changing it.
RMS reminder: Not every field or module applies to every call. Complete what the scenario supports and follow your instructor's requirements.
Field notes
Capture facts while keeping observations, statements, and inferences distinct.
Instructional hint: Use concise, chronological entries. Attribute statements to the person who made them.

Involved people
Enter each person as a separate RMS record. All identities and identifiers must be fictional.
Instructional hint: Race and ethnicity are separate NIBRS data elements. Hispanic or Latino ethnicity describes Spanish cultural origin and may apply to a person of any race. Select Unknown when the scenario does not provide the information.
Ethnicity is recorded separately from race.
RMS reminder: Select Add person record after completing this person. Repeat for every victim, reporting party, witness, suspect, or other involved person.

Offense and Missouri statute
Use the official Revised Statutes of Missouri to identify the offense and its degree.
Search by offense name or section number in the new window. Read the current statute and penalty language, then return here and enter the correct title, section, and degree. Your instructor's directions control this training exercise.
RMS reminder: Select Add offense to report after entering the statute and degree. Repeat for every separate offense.

Vehicles
Record each vehicle in separate searchable fields, as an agency RMS would.
Instructional hint: Copy identifiers exactly. Vehicle year and license-plate expiration year are different fields. Choose Other or Unknown when the listed values do not fit.
RMS reminder: Select Add vehicle after completing this vehicle. Repeat for each additional vehicle.

Property
Describe each item with identifiers sufficient to distinguish it from similar property.
Instructional hint: Record serial numbers exactly, identify the source of ownership information, and document the disposition of recovered property.
Missouri training reference - photographed property returned to owner:RSMo §490.717 ↗ addresses photographs and supporting documentation for property involved in a wrongful-taking prosecution and return after the required materials are filed. This exercise does not authorize a release; actual agency policy and direction from the prosecutor or court control.

RMS reminder: Select Add property after completing this item. If a return photograph is required, add it in Scene Processing and identify the property in the photo description.

Evidence
Create the item record first, then document every custody event without deleting earlier entries.
Instructional hint: Use the same item number on the package, photo log, sketch, narrative, and chain of custody. Each transfer identifies who released and received the item.

Notes
Training note: a real chain of custody is an append-only legal record. This simulator allows removal only so students can correct fictional work before submission.
Crime scene processing
Document whether the scene was processed, then record only the work actually performed.
Instructional hint: Not every call requires scene processing. If it was processed, describe the scene as first observed before documenting actions or conclusions.
RMS reminder: If the scene was not processed, mark it above and leave nonapplicable processing fields blank.
Photo log and images
Add up to eight fictional training photos. Each photo and its log information will print together on the same PDF page.
0 of 8 photos
How to add photos: You may select several image files at once. If your phone or device permits only one selection, repeat the button for each photo. Then enter the photo number, direction/view, and description directly under every image.
Rough scene sketch
Upload a photographed/scanned sketch or draw a basic sketch here. The saved diagram is included in the fillable PDF as a fixed image; its title, scale, orientation, and notes remain editable fields.
Touch, stylus, and mouse are supported. For detailed scenes, use the printable grid, then photograph or scan it and upload the image.
Report narrative
Write a clear, chronological, fact-based account.
Instructional hint: Explain assignment, arrival, observations, statements, actions, evidence, disposition, and follow-up. A supplemental report should clearly identify the follow-up activity or new information and retain the original case number.
Writing support: Browser spelling is enabled in text fields. Compatible browsers or installed writing tools may also show grammar suggestions. Validation flags a repeated word and sentences longer than 60 words. No report text is sent to an outside grammar service by Academy RMS.

Validation
Check the record for minimum submission requirements.
Validation is advisory and never prevents a PDF download. Students may download and print a draft at any stage. Your instructor’s rubric and assignment instructions remain controlling.
